Professor Epstein teaches EDUC 225 (Education and Social Justice), EDUC 492 (Student Teaching: Secondary Social Science), EDUC 373, Education and International Development, IS 222/322 (International Human Rights: An Introduction) and EDUC 361: Seminar: Curriculum and Pedagogy in Social Science.  In addition to chairing the Educational Studies department, he serves as a director of the IWU Center for Human Rights and Social Justice.  Irv has strong interests in comparative and international education, globalization, youth studies and children’s rights issues and has taught in Los Angeles, Australia, Taiwan, and Hong Kong.  He is a co-editor of the New Directions in Comparative Education book series, published by Bloomsbury Academic, and is a longstanding member of the Comparative and International Education Society, where he has served as a board member and Parliamentarian for the Board of Directors.  For ten years, Irv was an associate editor of the Comparative Education Review, and for six years, he was co-editor of the ASIANetwork Exchange.  Irv is currently a member of the Scholars at Risk advisory board, an organization of over five hundred universities around the world, dedicated to the global protection of scholars while pursuing academic freedom advocacy.  Having published five books and over fifty journal articles and book chapters, his most recent book is Affect Theory and Comparative Education Discourse: Essays Regarding Fear and Loathing as a Response to Global Educational Policy and Practice, (London: Bloomsbury, 2019).
