Joy Kanengiser

Bio

Joy Kanengiser is a Visiting Professor of Economics at Illinois Wesleyan University. She earned her Ph.D. and M.A. in Economics from West Virginia University and holds a Master of Arts in Education from Relay Graduate School of Education, as well as a B.S. in Mathematics from Lindenwood University.

Her research focuses on the economics of education, law and economics, public economics, and labor economics. Dr. Kanengiser’s work examines topics such as the long-term effects of youth interactions with the criminal justice system, the effects of Clean Slate Reforms on employment, and public flagging effects on school discipline. She has presented her research at national conferences, including the Southern Economic Association, Eastern Economic Association, Association for Education and Finance Policy, and Western Economic Association.

Dr. Kanengiser has extensive teaching experience across undergraduate economics courses, including Mathematical Economics, Applied Econometrics, Labor Economics, Business Statistics, and Introductory Economics. Prior to her academic career, she taught AP Calculus and other mathematics courses at Uncommon Preparatory Charter High School, serving as a network lead lesson planner and a Grade team leader.
