Minors for Business and Economics Students

Accounting Minor

Six accounting courses to include the following three courses consisting of two and one half course units:

  • ACC 111: Accounting Procedures Lab
  • ACC  316: Intermediate Accounting/Auditing I
  • ACC 318: Intermediate Accounting/Auditing II

Three and one half-additional course units selected from the following list (At least one course unit must be at the 300-level or above):

  • ACC 216: Professional Issues in Accounting
  • ACC 218: Accounting Information Systems
  • ACC 219: Introduction to Data Analytics in Accounting
  • ACC 270: Special Topics in Accounting
  • ACC 315: Tax Accounting
  • ACC 317: Intermediate Accounting II
  • ACC 370: Special Topics in Accounting
  • ACC 416: Advanced Accounting
  • ACC 417: Government and Not for Profit Accounting
  • ACC 419: Information Systems and Controls
  • ACC 455: Independent Study

Business Administration Minor

Six courses to include:

  • ACC 112: Introduction to Financial Accounting
  • ACC 212: Introduction to Managerial Accounting
  • BUS 331: Marketing: Principles and Management
  • BUS 341: Organization and Management
  • FIS 303: Financial Management
  • ECON 227: Statistics for Business and Economics

Economics Minor

A minimum of six courses to include:

  • ECON 100: Introduction to Economics
  • ECON 301: Intermediate Microeconomics I
  • ECON 302: Intermediate Microeconomics II
  • Three additional economics courses, at least two at the 300 level or above.

ECON 227 does not count towards the minor.

Entrepreneurship Minor

The minor requires six courses, as follows:

  • BUS 240: Introduction to Entrepreneurship
  • BUS 330: Funding Startups and Nonprofits
  • BUS 340: Starting a Business
  • BUS 440: Project in Entrepreneurship

Two elective courses selected from the following:

  • ACC 112: Introduction to Financial Accounting
  • ACC 212: Introduction to Managerial Accounting
  • ART 141: Graphic Design I
  • BUS 331: Marketing: Principles and Management
  • BUS 341: Organization and Management
  • BUS 355: Business Law I
  • ECON 100: Introduction to Economics
  • ECON 227: Statistics for Business and Economics
  • ENGL 214: Digital Storytelling
  • FIS 303: Financial Management
  • JOUR 315: Public Relations and Strategic Communication
  • PSCI/SOC 398: Grant Writing

No less than one elective must be an ACC, BUS, ECON, or FIS course.

Entrepreneurship Certificate

The certificate in Entrepreneurship requires that students complete the following three courses:

  • BUS 240: Introduction to Entrepreneurship
  • BUS 330: Funding Startups and Nonprofits
  • BUS 340: Starting a Business

Finance Minor

A minimum of six courses to include:

  • ACC 112: Introduction to Financial Accounting
  • FIS 303: Financial Management
  • ECON 227: Statistics for Business and Economics

Hispanic Studies for Business Professions

Six Hispanic Studies courses beyond SPAN 201, including:

  • SPAN 203: Spanish as a World Language
  • SPAN 250: Business Spanish and its Cultural Context or BARC 250
  • SPAN 307: Reading and Writing Culture
  • One additional course in Cultures and Identities taken from courses numbered SPAN 320-339
  • One additional course in Texts and Con(texts) taken from courses numbered SPAN 340-369
  • One elective, which can be a cross-listed SPAN/LC course

Human Services Management Minor

Five courses to include:

  • ECON 100: Introduction to Economics
