Although born and raised in New York City, Bruno deHarak has spent the majority of his adult life living in Georgia and Kentucky. Bruno spent several years working before beginning his graduate education. This "pre-graduate" experience included a stint in the Marine Corps, and positions as an electronics technician and systems programmer with Lockheed Martin, and as a database administrator with Yorkshire Global Restaurants.
He received a Ph.D. in physics from the University of Kentucky in 2007 for research on "Helium (e,2e) coplanar and out-of-plane experiments." Most recently, Bruno has been a post-doctoral scholar at the University of Kentucky, where the main focus of his research was the study of laser-assisted electron-impact ionization.
At Illinois Wesleyan University, Bruno is conducting a range of laser-based research projects. In addition to physics majors, Bruno wants to recruit students from a variety of majors (especially educational studies) to perform research with him. Believing that many people who study science are not given the opportunity to apply it to real world situations, Bruno is interested in increasing the "applied" content of the courses he teaches.
