Bachelor of Arts (Design) Example Course Plan
Bachelor of Arts (Studio) Example Course Plan
Bachelor of Fine Arts (Three-dimensional Art Concentration) Course Plan (first 3 semesters)
This is an example course plan based on the 2021-22 University Catalog; your actual
schedule may deviate from this example. Your faculty advisor will work with you to
select appropriate courses.
As an IWU student, it is your responsibility to track your progress each semester
towards completing graduation requirements using the MyIWU degree audit tool.
* In the rare event that a student can only take one studio art course during the
first semester, that course must be Foundation Art.
** Notes a course offered once per year. Please refer to University Catalog.
For students interested in studying abroad, either fall or spring of the third year
- No amount of experience in secondary school art is the equivalent of ART 111 and 113.
All students majoring in Art must complete these two courses or similar courses at
the college level.
- Please keep in mind that the BFA degree program requires 18 or 19 units in the major.
- Students must take an appropriate number of art and art history courses in their freshman
and sophomore year in order to graduate in four years. Students who do not comply
with the recommended pattern typically discover—in their junior year—that popular
options such as study abroad, urban semester, and internships are not available within
a four-year plan. Quality advising of art major students requires that they be informed
of the likely consequences of not following the required pattern.
