How to Apply

Illinois Wesleyan’s application is designed to be straightforward and supportive, so you can focus on telling your story and finding the right fit. Illinois Wesleyan offers first-year admission for students who want a hands-on academic experience in a close-knit, values-driven community that encourages you to do well and do good.

We accept the Common Application or the Illinois Wesleyan Application, both available August 1. Illinois Wesleyan does not charge an application fee and is test-optional.

Application Deadlines

Illinois Wesleyan offers two timelines for first-year applicants, so you can choose the option that fits your college search best:

  • Early Action: Apply by November 15 to receive your admissions decision by December 15.
  • Regular Decision: Apply at any time, and your application will be reviewed as it becomes complete. Most students receive an admission decision within about two weeks of submitting all required materials. 

Application Requirements 

All first-year applicants must submit:

  • your online application
  • school transcripts, showing your completed coursework and courses in progress

Your application will receive a full, holistic review based on your academic record and the information you share in your application.

Additional requirements for Art, Music, Nursing, and Theatre

Applicants to the Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in the Ames School of Art & Design must submit a portfolio for admission and art scholarship consideration.

Applicants planning to major in music must complete a live or virtual audition for admission to the School of Music and for talent scholarship consideration.

Nursing applicants must have successfully completed high school Algebra, Geometry, Chemistry, and Biology to be considered for admission to the School of Nursing & Health Sciences.

Applicants to the School of Theatre Arts complete an audition, interview, and/or portfolio review, depending on their intended theatre major, as part of the admission process.

Optional Materials

These items are not required, but they can help you share more about your achievements and interests:

  • a school report from your counselor
  • recommendations from teachers, coaches, or mentors who know you well
  • SAT or ACT scores, if you choose to submit them under the test-optional policy

Test scores are optional for all first-year and transfer applicants enrolled in a public, private or charter school. IWU accepts self-reported scores, the student score report, official scores from a testing center or scores reported on your official high school transcript. Test-optional applicants are still considered for merit-based scholarships.

How to Submit Application Materials

Transcripts are typically shared electronically via your school counselor, and can be e-mailed or mailed if needed. Optional supplemental items can be uploaded through your applicant status portal, available after your application has been submitted.
