Application Deadlines
Illinois Wesleyan offers two timelines for first-year applicants, so you can choose the option that fits your college search best:
- Early Action: Apply by November 15 to receive your admissions decision by December 15.
- Regular Decision: Apply by March 15, and your application will be reviewed as it becomes complete. Most students receive an admission decision within four weeks of submitting all required materials.
Application Requirements
We accept the Common Application or the Illinois Wesleyan Application, both available August 1. Illinois Wesleyan does not charge an application fee
When you begin your online application, you may save your work at any point and continue at a later time.

Submission Guidelines
All documents must be sent directly from your school’s counseling or administration office via the Common Application, mail (Illinois Wesleyan University - Office of Admissions, PO Box 2900, Bloomington, IL 61701 U.S.A), or e-mail at international@iwu.edu. If admitted and you choose to enroll, you must also submit proof of graduation and a final, official transcript.
English proficiency requirements can be met in one of the following ways:
- Your first or native language is English.
- You have completed at least three years of secondary education at a school where English is the primary language of instruction.
- You submit an approved English proficiency exam: IELTS, TOEFL, GTEC, Duolingo English Test, or PTE. IWU accepts TOEFL MyBest scores as well as scores from a single test date. Minimum scores for admission are IELTS 6.5, TOEFL iBT 80, Duolingo 115, and PTE 56. Scores more than two years old are not accepted.
English Language Proficiency scores must be sent directly from the testing agency or your school’s counseling or administration office. IWU accepts self-reported scores, the student score report, official scores from a testing center or scores reported on your official high school transcript. Test-optional applicants are still considered for merit-based scholarships.
All international applicants must submit proof of financial support to complete their application and be considered for admission to Illinois Wesleyan.

Scholarships & Financial Aid for International Students
Illinois Wesleyan uses a need-sensitive process for international admission, with a clear minimum family contribution. Once a student demonstrates the ability to contribute at least $30,000 USD per year, the application is then reviewed without further consideration of financial need, using the same academic and holistic criteria applied to other candidates.
IWU offers generous merit scholarships, with awards for strong academic achievement that can cover up to half the annual cost of attendance and are renewable for up to four years.
International students may also submit the CSS Profile to be considered for additional IWU-funded need-based aid—including scholarships, loans, and campus employment—with a preferred filing date of March 1.
