Coco Bassey '10  is the founder and editor in chief of Millennielle, a digital lifestyle and fashion publication, created in 2013 by and for millennial women. Alongside her blog, she also works as a Product Marketing Manager for Wolters Kluwer Tax & Accounting North America in the metro Atlanta area.

Professor Amoloza and Freeman Asia Interns, Titan Adventures in Asia: 2017 IWU Freeman Interns

Teddy Amoloza will talk about the IWU Freeman Asia Internship Program that has sent 77 students to Asia since summer 2015. Seven of the 34 interns who interned in Asia in summer 2017 will share their insights about what they described as a life-changing experience. Join the members of the IWU campus community for the return of the Titanium Pep Rally and the annual Titan Games featuring an expanded line-up this year. Titanium will end with the coronation of 2017 Homecoming King & Queen. Joining crowd favorite events such as NPC Sorority Scramble, Acacia/TKE/Theta Chi Chariot Races, and the FIJI/Sigma Chi Rope Pull will be the Clash of the Classes competitions.

Distinguished Alumnus, Wayne Messmer '72, From Wesleyan to the World Series

Wayne Messmer will share his story of being a blue collar kid on the Chicago South Side to an Illinois Wesleyan alumni success. He will share his story of sudden, unexpected change which nearly cost him his life and his voice. Through that experience, he learned what it takes to come out on the other side of change and trauma to help others do the same and realize the true spirit of a Champion.

Lavanga Wijekoon '04, From the Saga Dishroom to International Law Firm: A Former International Student's Reflections

Lavanga Wijekoon came to IWU as an international student from Sri Lanka. Now an attorney at an international law firm in Chicago, he advises and represents multinational employers. Recently, he has participated in negotiations for a business and human rights treaty at the United Nations. He also represents pro bono asylum seekers and “Dreamer” applicants. Lavanga will share his thoughts on how IWU – his friends, professors, and work-study at Saga – prepared him for his career, and how he met his wife-to-be on a May Term class.

Junaid Ahmed '96, Reporting World News Through Storytelling

Junaid Ahmed is Senior Broadcast Journalist at the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) which is one of the world’s leading provider of news. Despite being a London based journalist, Junaid’s work for the BBC has taken him around the world to cover stories, ranging from the earthquake in Nepal to the elections in Israel, to the horse meat scandal in Belgium. His most recent trip was to the Scottish capital Edinburgh where his show, the Weekend, covered the 70th anniversary of the Edinburgh Festival and the political mood in Scotland ahead of Britain’s departure from the European Union. Junaid will talk about these stories and about his initial journey to Bloomington and how his education at Illinois Wesleyan shapes his work.

Peace Garden Farm Stand

The Peace Garden was first created in 2012 and since then the Action Research Center (ARC) and Professor James Simeone have worked with environmental studies interns and student volunteers to produce three seasons of crops each year. Stop by to learn more and take home some free produce including apples from the nearby apple orchard!

The Trees of Illinois Wesleyan Arboretum Tour

Over 1200 trees grace the grounds of Illinois Wesleyan Arboretum, comprised of nearly 150 distinct species and cultivars. When trying to distinguish each from its neighbor, one might be reminded of the old adage…. “You can’t see the forest for the trees!” To help you discover our forest, Ken Detloff, Assistant Manager of Grounds Services, will lead you on a walking tour of campus and will point out many different specimens.
