Post-Doctoral Fellow in Political Science

Dr. Luna-Victoria Indacochea earned her Ph.D. in History with a designated emphasis on Human Rights from the University of California, Davis. Her research centers on the period of Peru’s internal armed conflict, between the Shining Path’s Maoist insurgency and the state’s armed forces (1980-2000). Her doctoral dissertation, titled “Urban Battleground: Survival in Lima’s Shantytowns during the Peruvian Armed Conflict,” examined the urban stage of the conflict and incorporated oral history interviews with shantytown leaders and urban officials. Her current research interests incorporate the fields of peace and conflict studies and memory studies and focus on the creation of investigative commissions on human rights violations during the armed conflict and their impact on the outcome of the war.

At IWU, Dr. Luna-Victoria Indacochea teaches courses on International Human Rights and Women and Gender in Modern Latin America.
