BLOOMINGTON, Ill. — Alumni, students and supporters of the fine arts will return to campus for Illinois Wesleyan University’s second annual Festival of the Arts, set for April 10–12, celebrating more than 75 years of artistic excellence.
The three-day event invites members of the IWU community to come together to recognize the work of current student artists. Through performances, exhibitions and interactive workshops, the festival aims to showcase the legacy of the university’s College of Fine Arts. "We are expecting significantly more alumni and friends to attend this year,” compared to the inaugural event last spring, said Dean of the College of Fine Arts Joseph “J.” Kline.
Festivities begin Friday evening with a creative writing showcase in Ames Library, followed by an opening reception in the Joyce Eichhorn Ames School of Art and Design galleries. The night concludes with a Wind Ensemble concert in Presser Hall honoring American composers in celebration of the nation’s 250th anniversary.
Programming continues Saturday which will consist of hands-on experiences and performances, including gamelan music, design demonstrations, theatre showcases and student film screenings. Guests can also explore the School of Art & Design’s student exhibition and attend a collaborative rehearsal between music and theatre students.
A highlight of the weekend will be the Festival Dinner and 175th Anniversary presentation Saturday evening, recognizing the university’s commitment to the arts. The celebration will continue with a performance of Pride and Prejudice at McPherson Hall and a late-night karaoke event.
“This year will include a collaboration between the School of Theatre Arts and the School of Music,” Kline said. “It will be their first collaboration in 15 years.”
The festival will conclude Sunday morning with a closing gathering, offering one final opportunity for people in attendance to connect and reflect on the weekend’s events.
Hosted meals throughout the weekend include a Friday reception, Saturday lunch and banquet, and a Sunday continental breakfast. Lodging is available at the Bloomington-Normal Marriott Hotel & Conference Center.
