The annual student art exhibition at Illinois Wesleyan University has returned this spring, highlighting a semester’s worth of student creativity.
Opening today, March 30, and running through April 22, the exhibition will be housed at the Ames School of Art and Design. A public reception is scheduled for April 11 from 1 to 3 p.m., offering visitors a chance to engage with the art and the student artists behind it.
The show celebrates the achievements of students enrolled in art courses throughout the semester. Hosted in the Merwin and Wakeley Galleries, the exhibition reflects a variety of practices, emphasizing the diverse approaches students take in expressing their ideas visually.
"This exhibition is a great opportunity to see what our students are up to and all the amazing things happening at the School of Art & Design,” said Amy Wilson, assistant professor of art and gallery director at IWU. “We have work in glass, painting, printmaking, drawing, photography and sculpture, from majors and non-majors — there is truly so much to see."
Gallery organizers note that the spaces are designed not only to support the curriculum but also to connect the university with the broader Bloomington community, with the exhibition being free and open to the public.
The gallery hours are Monday through Friday from noon to 4 p.m., with additional evening hours on Tuesdays from 7 to 9 p.m., and weekend hours from 1 to 4 p.m.
