NexSTEM Scholars to Present in Research Symposium

March 28, 2022

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. — NexSTEM scholars from Illinois Wesleyan University will present with other local students at the 2021-22 Spring Research Poster Symposium from 9-11:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 2 in the Workforce Development Center at Heartland Community College.

“Scholars in the NexSTEM Program uniquely work on faculty-mentored STEM research projects in their first two years of college and have opportunities to present their research each semester. This experience early in their college pathway helps to build both technical and communication skills which, in turn, helps build their confidence and prepares them for their coursework,” said Sheri Glowinski, director of the NexSTEM Program.

Funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF), the NexSTEM Program offers undergraduate scholars from Illinois Wesleyan University, Illinois State University and Heartland Community College the opportunity to develop and present independent research through the guidance of faculty mentors across STEM disciplines. NSF also provides four-year scholarships to students who meet the program’s financial criteria.

Over 30 students from the three schools will present their research findings with the community. The event will include a light breakfast. Those interested in attending should RSVP to sglowins@iwu.edu by Wednesday, March 30.
