Light the Night Celebration Highlights Multicultural Holidays

Nov. 23, 2021

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. — Celebrating holidays from around the world, Illinois Wesleyan University’s “Light the Night: A Multicultural Celebration of the Season of Light” will be held Thursday, Dec 2., 2021, from 6-8 p.m. at Evelyn Chapel (1301 N. Park Street).

“Light the Night” is an annual event on the IWU campus that celebrates the shared symbol of light across cultures and worldviews. The event includes participation from a variety of spiritual, cultural and musical student organizations.

Organizations involved in this year’s ceremony are: Silence Interrupted; Pagan Student Association; Touch of Class; South Asian Student Association; Black Student Union; and Titan Catholic. The Jewish and Muslim student associations will also be represented.

“Light is central to so many faith traditions, and especially for those that celebrate holidays in this winter season in the Northern Hemisphere,” said University Chaplain Walter Wiltschek. “I look forward to an evening in which we can celebrate all the light among us, even in challenging times.”

The annual event is free and open to the public. It is sponsored by the Office of Multifaith Engagement.
