BLOOMINGTON, Ill.— Illinois Wesleyan University will welcome students and their families Sept. 19-21 during Family Weekend. Activities will include games, picnics and award-winning entertainment by comedian Tracey Ashley and mentalist Chris Carter.
Ashley will take the stage Sept. 19 at 8 p.m. She was a semi-finalist on NBC’s Last Comic Standing Season 5 and has been nominated as Best Female Performer by Campus Activities magazine. She presents her seamless storytelling and sharp topical humor at college campuses and comedy clubs across the country.
Carter returns to Illinois Wesleyan on Sept. 20. A 1987 Illinois Wesleyan alumnus, Carter is a mentalist and entertainer who blends people-reading skills with the power of suggestion and a heavy dose of theatre for his performances. He repeatedly ranks among the highest-rated college campus entertainers.
Tickets are $20 per family member, except for the enrolled IWU student, and include Ashley’s show, a picnic lunch on Saturday, entrance to the women’s soccer game Saturday afternoon and Carter’s performance. The deadline for pre-registration is Sept. 12.
Other activities for families include a bike tour of Bloomington; billiards, shuffleboard and board games at Tommy’s; an International Clue Night at the International House; and women’s volleyball matches at the Shirk Center.
Family Weekend also provides a way to give back to the community. During this year’s Summer Enrichment Program, students focused on homelessness in the Bloomington-Normal community. Families can donate clothes, non-perishable food items and hygiene products in donation boxes at several event venues throughout the weekend.
