Faculty/Staff

Your support is instrumental to the success of our first-generation college students. This page contains resources for your work with these students at our university. If you were a first generation college student, you are invited to go to the  Firsts Experiences  page and submit your story about how you were inspired to go to college.

Want to be an advocate? What does it mean to be a IWU First Advocate?

As a faculty/staff member of Illinois Wesleyan University, you have invaluable knowledge that first-generation college students may not be aware of or may not feel comfortable with. An IWU First Advocate is intentional about transferring knowledge and learned experiences through mentoring and guidance of students. While this information may be readily available through different resources, an Advocate will build relationships with students that allow them to become comfortable with them when in need of answers.

As our first-generation population continues to grow, becoming an Advocate is a way to ensure the success of our scholars and our university.
