How to apply for Federal Stafford Loan

This is required only if Federal Stafford Loan is awarded as part of your financial aid proposal.

As many families are new to student loans, we have provided some suggested lenders to assist you with the selection process.  Please note that you are not required to use any of the recommended lenders and you will not be penalized if you choose a lender that is not included on our list.  Should you choose a lender not listed below,  we will assist you in the loan process with your chosen lender.  However, as you are establishing a long term relationship with a lender, we encourage you to research several lenders and choose one that best suits your needs.

We selected the listed lenders for the Stafford Loan program after a thorough and formal review process called a Request for Information.  A point system was developed to consider things such as customer service, ease of application process, front-end borrower benefits, repayment terms and lender stability in the marketplace. Please note: Since benefits are subject to change, please check the lender's website to confirm Federal Stafford Loan benefits offered.

The lenders are listed in alphabetical order.  Illinois Wesleyan University receives no financial incentive or other benefits for recommending lenders.

To ensure disbursement of the loan, please complete BOTH steps below:

Step 1:  Complete the online Entrance Interview Application/Student Counseling Guide.

Step 2: If you choose to borrow from one of the lenders listed, complete the Federal Stafford Loan Master Promissory Note (MPN) by clicking on your chosen lender's link. If you choose a lender not on this list, please go directly to their website to complete the MPN.
