Pre-Student Teaching

Field Experience (pre-student teaching)

Most courses in the Teacher Education Program incorporate opportunities to apply knowledge and theory to practice. Field experiences are planned to provide a gradual and sequential introduction to the full range of teaching possibilities. They are integrated within the goals of professional education coursework and supervised by university faculty and school personnel. Candidates complete a minimum of 100 hours of field work concurrent with their courses prior to student teaching. Reference the TEP handbook for detailed field placement requirements.

Illinois Educator Code of Ethics

The Code of Ethics (section 22.20, Illinois Administrative Code) specifies the core principles, values and responsibilities that apply to all Illinois educators, including candidates enrolled in pre-service education preparation programs. All candidates are responsible for learning and adhering to the code.

Standards and Program Requirements

Illinois Wesleyan University teacher candidates provide evidence of meeting the Illinois Professional Educator Standards (IPES) and the Culturally Responsive Teaching and Leading Standards (CRTL) throughout their professional education and major coursework.
