Re: Change in Accrued Time Off Policies
We continue to consider ways we can offer extended flexibility to our employees during the COVID-19 pandemic. In light of this endeavor, and to continue to bring more consistency to the time-off benefits offered to exempt and non-exempt employees, we are implementing the following changes effective September 1, 2020:
COVID-19 related changes
- Non-exempt and exempt staff and 12-month faculty will be allowed to use sick time for flexibility needed due to COVID-19, including COVID-related child care. Sick time may now be recorded in quarter-hour increments.
Permanent changes
- Sick time balances for current exempt staff will be front-loaded with a balance of 30 days of sick time effective September 1, 2020.
- The maximum balance of sick time for non-exempt staff will be increased from 23 days to 30 days.
- The maximum balance of sick time for exempt staff will be set at 30 days on September 1, 2020.
- Exempt and non-exempt staff and 12-month faculty will be eligible to earn 1 sick day per month, up to the maximum of 30 days.
- Exempt and non-exempt staff and 12-month faculty will be able to access sick, personal or vacation time in quarter-hour increments.
- Exempt staff and 12-month faculty will continue to report sick, vacation and personal time utilizing the Exempt Time Off Reporting form, which will now accept reporting in quarter-hour increments.
Notes:
- Sick, personal and vacation time balances will be updated in Banner Self-Service after each pay period has been processed
- For staff who work fewer than 12 months, leave time accrual is pro-rated.
