Admissions Counselor

The Admissions Counselor manages a designated territory to recruit prospective students, builds relationships with students and school partners, and supports applicants through every step of the admission and financial aid process. This role evaluates application materials and participates in admission decisions, while also providing a welcoming and informative campus visit experience. The position collaborates across campus, assists with strategic enrollment initiatives, and represents Illinois Wesleyan University at various outreach events. Responsibilities:

  • Recruitment and Territory Management; manage an assigned geographic territory to recruit prospective students and support them through the admissions and financial aid process; represent IWU at high school visits, college fairs and on-campus events; build relationships with prospective students, parents and high school counselors; track and analyze territory data to monitor application and enrollment trends; conduct individual meetings and group information sessions both on and off campus
  • Application Review and Admissions Decisions; evaluate applicant files and contribute to admission decisions in alignment with institutional goals; review academic credentials, extracurricular involvement and personal statements; apply admission criteria consistently to ensure fair decision-making; participate in committee decisions and consensus-building; document recommendations and rationales in the application system
  • Campus Visit and Event Support; provide a welcoming and informative experience for prospective students and families during visit programs; lead student information sessions, meet with prospective students and families, and provide additional support as needed during visits; assist with coordination and execution of on-campus events; engage families in conversation to answer questions and highlight distinct advantages of IWU
  • Collaboration and Special Projects; support office-wide initiatives through cross-collaboration and leadership on projects that advance institutional objectives; attend admission staff and enrollment division meetings; contribute to data analysis and reporting on recruitment outcomes; assist with strategic enrollment projects as assigned by supervisor or senior leadership; represent the Office of Admissions on committees or working groups

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Knowledge of college search process and financial aid best practices
  • Responsible for a travel territory, with overnight, weeknight, and weekend travel/extensive travel during the recruitment season
  • Valid Driver’s License and reliable personal transportation required
  • Physical requirements: stand and walk; twist; lift, carry, push, and pull objects that weigh up to 25 pounds
