Exempt Leave Reporting Memo
To: Exempt staff, eligible instructional staff and 12-month faculty
From: Cindy Lotz, Director of Human Resources
Date: March 11, 2021
I'm excited to provide an update about the upcoming enhancement to reporting leave time taken (sick, personal, vacation, bereavement or jury duty time) in the Banner Employee Self Service system. This change will help streamline the business processes of both HR and the payroll office, and help to ensure accurate leave balances are maintained.
Beginning in April (for recording time taken in March), Banner leave reporting will
be the new process for exempt staff, eligible instructional staff and 12-month faculty
to report time off through the Banner Employee Self-Service (ESS) portal. The leave
reporting period will be from the first day of the month through the last day of the
month, with reminder emails generated automatically by Banner. Reporting for each
month will be due from the employee by the 5th of the following month, and supervisors
will approve the leave report by the 10th of the month. Leave accrual will post to
your leave balances in Employee Self Service when payroll is processed and will display
by the 20th of each month.
What’s new?
* Leave time will no longer be tracked via submission of a Google form
* Leave usage will be applied in Banner (e.g. deducted from leave balances) during
the payroll process
* Leave time taken can be reported during the month the absence occurs, until the
5th of the following month.
* Monthly leave reports will be required whether or not leave time is taken either
confirming that no leave time was taken, or recording the leave time that was taken.
* Supervisors will be responsible to approve the leave report by the 10th of the month.
