Beijing Union University Faculty, Students to Visit
Jan. 30, 2015
BLOOMINGTON, Ill.— A delegation from Beijing Union University (BUU) will visit Illinois
Wesleyan University Feb. 6-15, marking one of the first faculty-student exchanges
between the two universities since a formal partnership was established in 2012.
BUU Vice President Zhou Zhicheng will accompany music students and faculty from BUU
to IWU. The students and faculty will work with IWU music students during their stay
as part of the Illinois Wesleyan School of Music’s sesquicentennial. The Chinese guests
will also present a performance on Feb. 8 at Westbrook Auditorium and they will be part of IWU’s Lunar New Year Celebration on Feb. 15.
The 2012 agreement between BUU and Illinois Wesleyan is part of IWU’s efforts to provide
more international opportunities for students through direct exchanges and study abroad
programs, according to Provost and Dean of the Faculty Jonathan Green.
“As we strive to continuously improve our preparation of students for meaningful lives
in a global society, opportunities for scholar and student exchanges will become ever
more important,” Green said when the agreement was signed. “Partnerships with colleagues
like those at Beijing Union University create valuable opportunities for faculty and
students at both institutions to enhance their understanding of each other and themselves
while strengthening the international community of scholars.”
