Overwatch Coach and Esports Program Coordinator

Student Involvement


This position supports the development and growth of our Overwatch roster, while providing support to the other program staff and teams. This role is a vital piece of the general operation of the program, the coaching staff and the support network for the students.  This is a full time, on-campus position; typical hours are 1:00-9:00pm, but the schedule is fluid given the nature of the industry.  Generous benefits include health, retirement, considerable time off and tuition assistance.


  • Coaching; coordinate and effectively prepare for matches, practices and scrimmages; develop and execute lessons to ensure all players on the Overwatch team have opportunities and tools to grow; mentor strategy, decision making, and communication; oversee, train, and supervise a student coach for Overwatch
  • Recruitment and Retention; recruit incoming students into the IWU Esports program; build rosters focused around existing students; support students within the program through regular check-ins and advising them on pursuing topics they are passionate about; ensure retention remains a priority through consistent communication and an individual approach to each student
  • Event Planning and Execution; coordinate with all relevant parties to plan and execute program events; interface with relevant external stakeholders to ensure the events exceed expectations; foster strong relationships on campus and in the community to create partnerships; manage student staff, and program staff, that may be required to execute events and ensure they are trained for their roles and responsibilities


  • Bachelor’s preferred; experience at the professional or academy level may substitute for some educational requirements
  • Minimum of two years’ related experience; advanced knowledge of Overwatch, esports events, coaching and development. Understanding of the collegiate esports landscape.

Annual salary: $40k

The final candidate will pass a pre-employment background investigation.   Per the Governor's August 26, 2021 Executive Order regarding COVID-19 vaccination, personnel in the higher education setting will need to either provide proof of vaccination, or apply for a medical/disability or religious exemption. All those not fully vaccinated will be required to participate in weekly COVID testing.
