Director of the School of Music


POSITION: The School of Music at Illinois Wesleyan University invites applications for a Director position with an open rank tenure-line faculty appointment to begin July 1, 2019. The Director serves as the chief administrator and fiscal agent for a professional school of over 100 undergraduate majors and oversees an annual budget of $2 million including personnel costs of 16 tenure-line faculty, 30 adjunct faculty and staff, and 6 full-time professional staff.

The School of Music offers a comprehensive music program and is an accredited institutional member of NASM. The Director is responsible for a number of degree programs aimed at developing strong musicianship and performance skills for students while fostering the creativity, resourcefulness, independent thinking, and breadth of knowledge that characterize a liberal arts education. The university boasts 30% domestic diversity in its entering class and is intent on continuing diversity and inclusion initiatives.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SALARY: Candidates must hold a doctoral degree in Music and have a record of distinguished and active teaching and artistic or scholarly achievement. The successful candidate should demonstrate effective administrative leadership that will promote growth and elevate the prominence of the School. The Director should also have the skills to develop a strategic unified vision that guarantees the integrity of a vibrant curriculum; mentor and develop faculty, staff, and students; and foster a climate of collegiality, respect, and inclusivity. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
