University Celebrates Civic Engagement

BLOOMINGTON, Ill.— Student groups, athletic teams and individuals were honored along with faculty, staff and community partners at the fifth annual Civic Engagement Banquet.

Sponsored by Illinois Wesleyan University’s Student Senate in collaboration with the Action Research Center (ARC), the annual event celebrates those who have made significant contributions to community service.

ARC officials said IWU students, faculty and staff reported a total of 23,930 hours of community service since May 1, 2016. Faculty, staff and students can still report hours for this academic year to help reach the end-of-year goal of 45,000 reported hours.

At the banquet, nine awards were presented for community service:

  • Outstanding Athletic Team: Women’s Lacrosse
  • Outstanding Registered Student Organization (RSO): Circle K
  • Outstanding Faculty or Staff Member: Reverend Elyse Nelson Winger
  • Outstanding Fraternity or Sorority: Sigma Kappa
  • Outstanding First-Year Student: Quinn Darby ’20
  • Outstanding Alternative Break Participant: Chris Crown ’17
  • Outstanding Senior: Brigid Crawford ’17
  • Outstanding Work in an Internship: Emily Brown ’17
  • Outstanding Community Partner: Community Health Care Clinic
