Freeman Asia Interns Share Experiences in Blogs, Photos

June 29, 2017
BLOOMINGTON, Ill.—With a Freeman Foundation grant covering their expenses, a record 34 Illinois Wesleyan students are conducting internships at locations throughout Asia this summer – and sharing their experiences through blogs and photos.
After less than two days at Gawad Kalinga Enchanted Farm in the Philippines, senior Laurence Henderson spoke for many of his classmates as he wrote, "I know that I am in the midst of a life-changing experience."
Describing students he'd met at the GK School for Experiential and Entrepreneurial Development, he wrote, "When I tell you I am in the presence of some of the strongest, most humble individuals the world has to offer, I mean that whole-heartedly. These kids are rockstars. You wouldn’t believe the trials and tribulations that they have overcome in pursuit of their dreams... I am going to keep soaking up every ounce of knowledge I can from these kids."
