Student Art on Display During Juried Exhibition

BLOOMINGTON, Ill.— Student works from all areas of the Illinois Wesleyan University
studio art program will be showcased during the 29th annual Juried Student Art Exhibition, opening Feb. 8 at the Merwin and Wakeley Galleries in the Joyce G. Eichhorn Ames School of Art Building.
An opening reception will be held Feb. 11 from 4 to 6 p.m. Awards include the President’s
Award, selected by IWU President Eric Jensen; the Director’s Award, chosen by School
of Art Director Kevin Strandberg; the Memorial Center Purchase Award; and the Mayo
Alumni Purchase Award, sponsored by Michael Mayo ’02. These will be presented at 4:30
p.m. on Feb. 11.
The juror for this year’s exhibition is Claire Hedden, curator at the McLean County
Arts Center. Hedden creates mixed media sculpture drawing on her experiences as a
furniture maker, mother, ranch hand, yoga student and observer. She earned an MFA
in ceramics from the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University.
Student achievements in drawing, painting, photography and sculpture will remain on
display through Feb. 25. Gallery hours are 12 to 4 p.m. Monday-Friday, 7-9 p.m. Tuesday
evening and 1-4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
