BLOOMINGTON, Ill. –Illinois Wesleyan University’s annual BFA/BA Senior Art Exhibitions, featuring the works of seven graduating art majors and minors, opens April 11 in the Merwin and Wakeley Galleries in the Ames School of Art, 6 Ames Plaza West, Bloomington.
The exhibit includes works from all areas of the art program: painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, graphic design, ceramics, sculpture and glass casting. Featured seniors are Miranda Baldwin (Heyworth, Ill.); Tess Johnson (Bloomington); Ross Knezovich (Naperville, Ill.); Justice Macklin (Flossmoor, Ill.), Anissa Ortiz (Bloomington); Rachael Schamberger (Chicago); and Kyla Thomas (Chicago).
A reception from 1 to 3 p.m. on April 16 includes an awards ceremony at 1:30 p.m. Three special awards will be presented. The Ames Library Purchase Award is an annual honor in which one piece of artwork is added to the library’s collection. The CLA Social Sciences Art Purchase Award also selects a piece from the exhibit to be displayed in the Center for Liberal Arts building. The Women’s Studies Art Purchase Award will honor and display one student’s work in the Women’s Studies department of the CLA building.
The senior art exhibit remains on display through April 19. Gallery hours are Monday-Friday 12 to 4 p.m., Tuesdays from 7 to 9 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public.
