Jazz Groups to Present Night of Jazz

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The IWU Jazz Quintet and the Jazz Ensemble will present their final concert of the year on April 18 at 8 p.m. in Westbrook Auditorium. The concert is free and open to the public.

The Quintet will feature original arrangements and compositions by Miles Davis, The Beach Boys, Jaco Pastorius, and student Adam Wax ’18. Minji Will ’19 will join Wax on Billy Strayhorn’s “Lush Life.”

The Jazz Ensemble will present a program of iconic big band music by composers and arrangers John Clayton, Maria Schneider, Bill Holman, Tom Kubis, Michael Philip Mossman and Thad Jones. Trumpeter Shaun Schaefers ’16 will present a tribute to American jazz cornetist and composer Bix Beiderbecke. The concert will also include a special performance by Assistant Professor of Music Tim Pitchford with the Jazz Ensemble trombone and rhythm sections. Pitchford directs both the Jazz Quintet and Jazz Ensemble.
