BLOOMINGTON, Ill.— Contemporary works of six American composers will be featured at the Nov. 7 concert of Illinois Wesleyan University’s Wind Ensemble.
The 32-member group will perform “Spirit of the Sequoia” by Philip Sparke, “Fantasies on a Theme by Haydn” by Norman Dello Joio, “Aurora Awakes” by John Mackey, “A Light unto the Darkness” by David Gillingham, “Lollapalooza” by John Adams” and “Ride” by Samuel Hazo.
Founded in 1979, the Wind Ensemble is an auditioned group comprised of wind and percussion students specializing in challenging, contemporary literature. Lev Ivanov, visiting assistant professor of music, conducts the ensemble.
The Nov. 7 concert begins at 7:30 p.m. in Westbrook Auditorium. It is free and open to the public.
