BLOOMINGTON, Ill.— Illinois Wesleyan University’s Wind Ensemble will perform a concert Feb. 20 at 7:30 p.m. at Presser Hall’s Westbrook Auditorium. Visiting Assistant Professor of Music Lev Ivanov will conduct the concert.
The program includes Serenade, Op. 7 by Richard Strauss, Canzona Prima a 5 by Giovanni Gabrieli, Old Wine in New Bottles by Gordon Jacob, Divertimento by Vincent Persichetti, Be Thou My Vision arranged by contemporary American composer David Gillingham, and Canzona by Peter Mennin.
Founded in 1980 by Professor Emeritus Steven W. Eggleston, the Wind Ensemble is an auditioned group of wind and percussion students. The ensemble specializes in performing contemporary pieces and has worked with world-renowned composers. As well as playing concerts on campus during the academic year, the Wind Ensemble also participates in national music conferences and frequently tours throughout the Midwest.
