Symphonic Winds and Jazz Lab Ensemble

On April 18, the Illinois Wesleyan Symphonic Winds and Jazz Lab Ensemble will perform
in a free concert at 7:30 p.m. in Westbrook Auditorium of Presser Hall.
Comprised of an auditioned group of students in various disciplines, the Symphonic
Winds will feature student soloists Zachary Taylor ’15 on trumpet, Grace Ricks ’18
on trombone, John Gelasi ’17 on trombone and Chris Cooper ’18 on trombone. The ensemble
will perform works by Gordon Jacob, Frank Ticheli, Daniel Kallman, Leroy Anderson,
Harry Simeone and Gustave Charpentier. Assistant Professor of Music Roger Garrett
is conductor of Symphonic Winds, and Larissa Kowal ’15 will serve as student conductor.
The Jazz Lab ensemble will perform works by Tito Puente, Oliver Nelson, Shelton Berg
and Neal Hefti. The ensemble consists of music and non-music majors, and performs
an array of jazz styles with a focus on jazz classics. Assistant Professor of Music
Tim Pitchford serves as director.
