Student Composition Concert

BLOOMINGTON, Ill.— Works composed by students at Illinois Wesleyan University will be presented in concert Dec. 5. The 8 p.m. concert at Westbrook Auditorium is free and open to the public.
The concert will include the following works: “Mvt. 2: Recitative and Aria,” written and performed by piano performance major Matthew Mason ’16 (Lincoln, Ill.); “Contemplation,” composed by history and philosophy double major Yanfei Lu ’18 (Rochester, Minn.); “Take Me Away,” written and performed by Genna Simon, a music major from Chicago; and “Iron Thread,” written and performed by music composition major Joseph Bakke ’16 (Puyallup, Wash.). Other works include “Tuba Concerto” written by music education major Jack Gardner’17 (Orland Park, Ill.) and performed by Gardner and Michael Olson ’17 (Bloomington, Ill.); two works by environmental studies and music double major Madz Negro ’16 (New Berlin, Ill.): “Sugar Lament” and “Midas;” and a free improvisation with invented instruments by students in the course “Introduction to Composition” taught by Fern Rosetta Sherff Professor of Composition and Theory David Vayo.
The concert is part of the School of Music’s New Music Series.
