Campus to Screen Documentary “Shortchanged: Unjailing the Mentally Ill”

Illinois Wesleyan University will screen the documentary “Shortchanged: Unjailing the Mentally Ill” on Jan. 11 at 1 p.m. in Westbrook Auditorium of Presser Hall. The screening is free and open to the public.
Produced by Pantagraph reporter Edith Brady-Lunny and photojournalist David Proeber, the documentary follows the community’s efforts towards improving mental health care. The film features interviews with McLean County officials, law enforcement and health professionals about their work toward better serving people with mental illnesses. It also includes interviews with several people living with a serious mental illness regarding some of the challenges they face while seeking health care.
Illinois Wesleyan alumna Elizabeth Robb ’78, set to retire Dec. 31 as chief judge of the 11th Judicial Circuit of Illinois, is also featured in the film speaking about better serving defendants with mental illnesses.
