BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – Illinois Wesleyan University alumnus and award-winning tubist
Max Briggs ’12 will be a guest artist at the School of Music on Oct. 22 at 8 p.m.
Briggs won the 2015 Leonard Falcone International Euphonium and Tuba Festival in the
tuba artist division, and took second place in the same category at the 2014 Falcone
festival. He also won first place in the Chicago Brass Festival solo competition.
Briggs is now a freelance tubist in the Chicago area and a doctoral student at Northwestern
University. He also maintains a studio of high school tuba, euphonium, and trombone
students. A tuba performance major at Illinois Wesleyan, Briggs also received a master’s
degree from Northwestern University.
Briggs’ performance in Westbrook Auditorium is free and open to the public. His program
will include "Sonata for Tuba" by Frank Lynn Payne, "Sweet Dances" by Elizabeth Raum,
"Nocturno, Op. 7" by Franz Strauss, "Canzonet" by Claude Baker and "Teutonic Tales"
by Robert W. Smith.
