BLOOMINGTON, Ill.— The campus community gathered Oct. 20 in the Young Main Lounge to wish President Richard F. Wilson and Pat Wilson farewell as they near the end of the Wilson presidency, which will officially come to an end on Oct. 31.
About 300 faculty, staff, students, alumni and retirees attended the event, which included proclamations delivered by a representative from the Illinois State Legislature and the Mayor of the City of Bloomington, Tari Renner. Speaking on behalf of the Board of Trustees, Steve Wannemacher ’73 added the Board’s thanks for President Wilson’s many accomplishments and thanked Pat Wilson for her role as first lady of Illinois Wesleyan.
Expressing his thanks to those assembled, President Wilson shared stories about students and graduates whose lives have been transformed by their Illinois Wesleyan experiences. He concluded his remarks by saying, “I am grateful to all of you for making my experience at IWU more fulfilling than I could have ever imagined. Your dedication has inspired me; your encouragement and support have sustained me. It has been a distinct honor and privilege to serve as your president for the past eleven years. Thank you very, very much.”
In her remarks Pat Wilson expressed the closeness she and President Wilson feel for Illinois Wesleyan: “Even though Wesleyan will no longer be in our front yard, it will always be in our hearts,” she said. “Thank you all for making this such a warm, welcoming place.”Gallery loading...
