BLOOMINGTON, Ill.— Accounting major Alejandra Salinas ’16 (Sugar Grove, Ill.) said her Illinois Wesleyan University coursework has prepared her well for her role as a risk assurance intern in the Chicago office of PwC, the world’s second largest professional services network and one of the Big Four auditors.
“Many of my accounting, business and economics courses have prepared me for this internship by exposing me to appropriate laws and regulations that apply to public accounting firms and private companies,” said Salinas.
The summer internship is actually her second one at PwC. Last year Salinas worked with PwC’s Campus Recruiting Team. “I really enjoyed the firm’s culture and environment so I was thrilled when they offered me a client services internship this summer,” she said.
As part of her internship, Salinas meets with clients to discuss their business and IT processes. “It’s great exposure to clients’ businesses,” she said. “This internship challenges me to think about multiple perspectives prior to solving a problem and encourages me to embrace my mistakes.”
On campus Salinas is president of Collegiate DECA and is a member of the Illinois Wesleyan Accounting Society and the Economics Society.
Salinas is one of more than 200 Illinois Wesleyan students interning at locations around the globe this summer. Illinois Wesleyan students increasingly participate in internship opportunities; the most recent data shows over 70 percent of the Class of 2014 participated in at least one internship and over half of these students had more than one internship.
