Pianist and artist-in-residence at Shorter University Jerico Vasquez will present
a guest recital at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 24 in Westbrook Auditorium of Presser Hall.
An active performer, Vasquez has performed as a concert soloist, recitalist and chamber
musician in the United States, Canada, Europe and the Philippines. In addition to
serving as an artist-in-residence, Vasquez is an associate professor of music and
coordinator of keyboard studies at Shorter University in Rome, Ga. He previously taught
at the University of Houston’s (UH) Moores School of Music and the University of Houston—Downtown.
He is a past winner of the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB) Concerto
Competition and has received career grants from the Pillsbury Foundation, the Santa
Barbara Performing Arts Scholarship Foundation and the Léni Fé Bland Foundation. A
member of the national music honor society Pi Kappa Lambda, Vaquez is also a recipient
of the Ojai Music Festival’s Charlotte and Alvin Bronstein Award, Capitol Records’
Nat King Cole Memorial Award and the University of California Regents Scholarship.
After earning a bachelor of music degree from UCSB, Vasquez earned a master of music
and doctorate of musical arts degree in piano performance from the UH Moores School
of Music. He has studied under acclaimed pianists Charles Asche, Ruth Tomfohrde, Abbey
Simon and Horacio Gutierréz.
