BLOOMINGTON, Ill.— For two consecutive nights of comedy, Illinois Wesleyan will welcome stand-up comics Calise Hawkins and Sammy Obeid to the Hansen Student Center. Both events will begin at 8 p.m., with Hawkins performing on Friday, March 21 and Obeid performing on Saturday, March 22.
Hawkins, a Springfield, Ill. native, has appeared on network and cable television, including Nickelodeon’s NickMom Night Out, NBC’s Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and Last Comic Standing. She also writes for MTV’s Girl Code and NickMom.com.
A graduate of the University of California, Berkley, Obeid, who majored in applied mathematics and business administration, brings a rigorous and systematic approach to his comedy. The native of Oakland, Calif. achieved an unprecedented stretch of stand-up performances when he became the first and only comic to perform for 1,000 consecutive days.
Obeid has appeared on NBC’s America’s Got Talent, TBS’s Conan and the Food Network. The comic, who was also a part of two national comedy tours, released his comedy album, Get Funny or Die Tryin, in July of 2013.
Sponsored by the Office of Student Activities, both events are free and open to the public. For additional information, contact the Office of Student Activities at (309) 556-3850 or OSA@iwu.edu.
