Rietz '07 Receives 2013 Cefalo Award

BLOOMINGTON, Ill.— Illinois Wesleyan alumna Ashley (Watson) Rietz, Class of 2007,
was recently awarded a 2013 Robert C. Cefalo House Officer Award from the University
of North Carolina (UNC) School of Medicine, located in UNC at Chapel Hill.
Rietz, who received a doctor of medicine degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin
in 2009, is currently a resident physician of family medicine at UNC Health Care.
The award recognizes members of the hospital’s staff who have exhibited exemplary
service to patients and families, advocacy for and demonstration of the highest standards
of patient care and remarkably professional performance.
Over a three-year period, the award will cover the expenses associated with Rietz’s
professional development and/or attendance to scientific conferences that aim to enhance
her knowledge and abilities in the health-care setting.
Rietz was also recently inducted into the UNC Academy of Educators in honor of her
commitment to instructing residents and medical students, fostering their development
as clinicians and health-care professionals.
