BLOOMINGTON, Ill.— As a part of the “First Wednesday” Chapel Series and Illinois Wesleyan University’s Week of Holiday Celebration, Evelyn Chapel will host a sing-a-long of George Frideric Handel's Messiah.
The event, which is free and open to the public, will take place on Wednesday, December 4 at 11:00 a.m. in the Evelyn Chapel (1301 N. Park St., Bloomington).
Originally preformed in Dublin on Apr. 13, 1742, Messiah is an English-language oratorio, and has become one of the best-known and most frequently performed choral works in Western music.
Provost Jonathan Green, Dr. Susan Klotzbach and student musicians will lead the audience in the singing of Messiah favorites.
After the performance, there will be a bring-your-own-bag lunch, with holiday cookies and a discussion about the enduring cultural and spiritual impact of Handel’s masterwork.
