Celebrate America Recycles Day
Nov. 11, 2013
BLOOMINGTON, Ill.— On Saturday, November 16, the Illinois Wesleyan community can be
part of the cause for an “other” kind of recycling. IWU Wellness and the Ecology Action
Center invite the public to celebrate America Recycles Day with their Mega Recycling
Event from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the parking lot of the Hansen Student Center (300 E.
Beecher St., Bloomington).
The event, which is free and open to the public for residential waste only, aims to make recycling easier by allowing Bloomington-Normal residents to recycle various types of items all in one place.
The recycling event is sponsored by State Farm Insurance and brought to you by Home Sweet Home Ministries, Springfield Electric, C.O.P.S., the Illinois Plastic Pot Recycling Project, the Ecology Action Center and Illinois Wesleyan University.
Acceptable items include: electronics, compact fluorescent bulbs (CFLs), household batteries (alkaline, watch and rechargeable), clothes, textiles and shoes (usable or not), plastic garden pots and terracycle items (see complete list of items at TerraCycle).
Confidential On-Site Paper Shredding (C.O.P.S.) will provide free confidential document shredding for residents.
Participants are asked to avoid bringing any household hazardous waste items (chemicals, paints, automotive fluids, car batteries, tires, pesticides and fertilizers).
