BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – Stephanie Carlson of Normal, a sophomore at Illinois Wesleyan
University, has been selected to study at Pembroke College, Oxford University, England,
next fall.
As part of the Pembroke College Visiting Students Programme, Carlson will spend the 2013-2014 academic year at the university. The special exchange program allows Illinois Wesleyan students to spend a year with students from selected U.S. universities such as Brown, Bryn Mawr, Columbia, Duke and Georgetown.
Carlson is a political science and history double major. She will be enrolled in Pembroke’s history and politics course.
“I intend to study periods of British history and other subjects of English and European history not typically covered at colleges in the United States,” said Carlson. “I also want to learn about international politics while living abroad.”
Carlson said her acceptance is “a dream come true to study British history at one of Britain’s finest universities.”
Founded in 1624, Pembroke College admits less than 100 undergraduate students each
year. Illinois Wesleyan students have studied at Pembroke College since 1997.
