Festival of Spirituals and Songs

Jan. 18, 2012

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The 14th annual Festival of Spirituals and Songs in Honor of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. will take place on Thursday, January 19, 2012 at 4:00 pm in Evelyn Chapel (1301 N. Park St., Blomington).  The program is free and open to the public.

Professor of Music Carren Moham will lead the festival.  For Moham, “music was such an important part of the Civil Rights Movement, spirituals especially, that I wanted to organize a program that highlighted music that was significant in the Civil Rights Movement during Black Music History.  It is also an opportunity for IWU students and faculty to share their musical gifts while honoring Dr. King and his legacy and vision,” said Moham.

The program will feature IWU students, staff, and faculty performing a wide variety of selections, and the University Chaplain, Elyse Nelson Winger, will speak at the event.
