University to Host Experience IWU: Parent Orientation
June 4, 2012
BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – On Saturday, June 16, Illinois Wesleyan University will welcome to campus parents and guardians of incoming first-year students in the day-long Experience IWU: Parent Orientation.
Each June an average of over 400 parents and guardians attend the event to learn more about their students' upcoming transition to college. The Office of Orientation Services intends this event to give parents and guardians "vital knowledge of the University's academic and social aspects," as well as answers to any questions or concerns they might have regarding financial aid, housing, and more. Sessions like "Career Center Close-up: Majors, Internships, Career Planning & More," presented by the Hart Career Center, and "Surviving Your Student's First Year in College" are geared toward helping parents and guardians be more supportive and effective during their child's transition to college life.
Between registration and the closing reception in the atrium of the Center for Natural Science Learning and Research (210 E. Beecher St., Bloomington), guests will have the opportunity to interact with Illinois Wesleyan faculty and staff, as well as have a hands-on experience of what it's like to attend classes at IWU. Additional activities include a welcome by President Richard F. Wilson, lunch in the Bertholf Commons, and the Titan Fair, which will allow parents and guardians to learn more about on-campus services.
Registration will begin at 8 a.m. in the Eckley Lounge of the Memorial Center (104 University St., Bloomington) and the event will end at 5 p.m. Registration costs $20 per person, which includes a continental breakfast, lunch and program materials. The pre-registration deadline is Sunday, June 10; registrations after this date will be accepted as space remains available.
Future students are not encouraged to attend Experience IWU; Incoming students will have an opportunity to explore campus life during the annual Turning Titan: New Student Orientation from Tuesday, August 21 to Sunday, August 26.
