BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The Illinois Wesleyan University School of Music will present the New Music Café Thursday, October 27 at 8 p.m. in Westbrook Auditorium of Presser Hall (1210 N. Park St., Bloomington). The event is free and open to the public.
The concert will showcase of IWU students, including “Matt Skibo, singing the American Folk Song Set by Steven Mark Kohn, Qingfan Jiang playing two intimate piano pieces by the American master of quietude Morton Feldman, and Michelle Stanbary performing TRK's by Ian Clarke and Simon Painter, a showpiece that pairs the flute with a high-energy backing soundtrack,” said director Professor David Vayo.
The opening piece, Due Process, by University of Illinois faculty composer Erik Lund, will be performed by Chicago percussionist and featured guest, Steve Butters. Andrea Steele and Nancy Pounds will perform Learning to Breathe for clarinet and piano, by Illinois State University Professor, Roy Magnuson. The program will also include a pre-recorded electroacoustic composition by IWU Professor Daniel Swilley, and a free improvisation by Butters, Lund and Vayo.
