BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The Illinois Wesleyan University School of Music will present a concert with the University’s two premiere jazz combos, Members Only and Active Ingredient, on Friday, March 4 at 7:30 p.m. in the Westbrook Auditorium of Presser Hall (1210 N. Park St., Bloomington). The concert is free and open to the public.
The concert will be divided into two parts, with Members Only performing first. The group will perform Beautiful Love by Wayne King, Victor Young and Egbert Van Alstyne, St. Louis Blues by W.C. Hand and Watermelon Man by Herbie Hancock.
Members Only, a new group created in the spring of 2011, is comprised of five musicians including Jamie Burchett ‘11, trombone; Kristina Dakis ‘11, tenor saxophone; Gabe Stillman ‘13, piano; Jay Heidekat ‘11, bass and Jake Bisaillon ‘12, drums.
Active Ingredient will perform So What by Miles Davis, Black Orpheus by Luiz Bonfa, Maiden Voyage by Herbie Hancock, What is This Thing Called Love by Cole Porter and Red Clay by Freddie Hubbard.
The student-led jazz combination group has existed for over 20 years and consists of six members including Heidekat, trombone; Stillman, alto saxophone; Ini Essien ‘13, tenor saxophon; Phil Lewis ‘13, piano; Troy Sennett ‘14, bass and Steve Kutschke ‘12, drums.
