Integrating Technology in the Classroom
February 4, 2011
BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – Leah Nillas, assistant professor of educational studies, in conjunction
with the Illinois Wesleyan University Educational Studies Department will host a two-day
technology workshop. The workshop will take place on Friday, Feb. 4 at 12 p.m. and
Saturday, Feb. 5 at 10 a.m. in Ames Instructional Lab of The Ames Library (1211 N.
Park St., Bloomington). The event is open to mathematics and science majors with
a minor in secondary education.
The workshop, facilitated by Distinguished Teaching Professor of Mathematics Stephen
F. West of State University of New York (SUNY) at Geneseo, will focus on the latest
Texas Instruments (TI) technology – the TI-Nspire CAS, a touchpad graphing calculator.
West, a TI National Instructor, hopes that students attending the workshop become
aware of the latest calculators available so that they may “utilize the technology
to enhance the teaching and learning of mathematics and science.”
Illinois Wesleyan has purchased 30 licenses for the TI-Nspire software, which are
available for students to use in Buck 202 of Buck Memorial Library and the Ames Instructional
Lab. Each student participating in the workshop will receive the teacher edition
of the software, complimentary of Texas Instruments.
