Martin Luther King, Jr. to be Honored with Spirituals and Songs

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The 12th annual Festival of Spirituals and Songs in honor of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. will be held on Thursday, Jan. 20 at 4 p.m. in Evelyn Chapel (1301 Park St., Bloomington).

The event is free and open to the public.

Coordinated by Associate Professor of Music Carren Moham, the program highlights songs that were an important part in the struggle for freedom from slavery in the 19th century and the struggle for equality during the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s.
