BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – Illinois Wesleyan University’s Student Senate will be holding a series of events during May Term.
On Friday, May 13 the Student Senate will show two mystery horror films at the Hansen Student Center (300 E. Beecher St., Bloomington). Saw will be shown at 8 p.m., followed by Saw 3D: The Final Chapter at 10 p.m. The movies chronicle the deadly games of Jigsaw, a sadistic mastermind. All students who attend the event will be entered to win movie posters.
The IWU Student Senate will also host a Rock Band Tournament at 8 p.m. on Saturday, May 15 at the Hansen Student Center. Rock Band is a video game which allows up to four players to simulate performances of popular rock music songs using controllers modeled after instruments. Students are encouraged to form their own groups of up to four members and join in the school-wide competition. The tournament will consist of two qualifying rounds and a third round for the top three bands. The winning band members will receive tickets to IWU Night at Bloomington Extreme and one item of Bloomington Extreme merchandise.
A second movie night, featuring Hall Pass, will take place on Friday, May 20. This romantic comedy follows a group of married men who have been granted the opportunity to live as bachelors for a weekend. The film will be shown at 8 p.m. and again at 10 p.m. at the Hansen Student Center. All students who attend will have the opportunity to win a Hall Pass poster.
On Saturday, May 21 the Student Senate will sponsor IWU Night at the U.S. Cellular Coliseum, home of the Bloomington Extreme. The Bloomington Extreme, a professional indoor football league, is home to Illinois Wesleyan alumnus and former Titan, Ray Krishock. Students may purchase tickets for $5 each between May 9 and May 13, as well as between May 16 and May 20 at the SAGA steps. Students will also be able to sign-up for a variety of half-time events, including human bowling and a tire football toss, when purchasing tickets. Transportation will be provided to and from campus beginning at 6:15 p.m. on the evening of the event, departing and returning to the Hansen Student Center.
In addition to these events zumba and hula hoop classes are being held throughout the duration of May Term. Zumba, a Latin inspired fitness dance class, is offered every Monday at 4:30 p.m. Hula Hoop, a fitness class utilizing hoops for body toning and cardio, takes place every Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. Both classes are in the Hansen Student Center and are complimentary to all students.
