BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – Illinois Wesleyan University will welcome two new exhibits in the Merwin and Wakeley Galleries on Nov. 8, and they will continue to be on display through Dec. 8. Artist Erin Furimsky will feature her An Instant Adorned exhibit, while artist Jodi Birdwell will feature her Love letter to Cy…and other notes.
The opening reception will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 8 from 4-6 p.m. There will also be a Birdwell lecture at 4 p.m. in room 218 of the Joyce Eichhorn Ames School of Art Building. These events are free and open to the public.
The Merwin and Wakeley Galleries are located at 6 Ames Plaza in Bloomington. Regular gallery hours are Monday through Friday from noon-4 p.m., Tuesday evenings from 7-9 p.m., and Saturday and Sundays from 1-4 p.m.
Birdwell received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Lander University in Greenwood, S.C., and completed her Master of Fine Arts in Printmaking at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She previously taught drawing, design, printmaking, and art history at Parkland College in Champaign, and is currently a professor in the Department of Fine Arts at Lake Land College in Mattoon, Ill. Birdwell also built and designed art exhibits at Krannert Art Museum in Champaign for six years.

Furimsky received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Pennsylvania State University, Pa., and completed her Master of Fine Arts in Ceramics at Ohio State University, Ohio. She is currently represented by Dubhe Carreno Gallery in Chicago. Furimsky also teaches Ceramics 1 and 2 as an adjunct faculty member at Heartland Community College in Normal.
